Overview

Explore the beautiful forests, mountains, waterfalls, levadas, and beaches during our 5 day yoga and hiking retreat on the stunning Portuguese island of Madeira!

  • Each morning will begin with invigorating yoga classes led by Lisbon’s favorite yoga teacher, Steph Jaksch.

  • Daily excursions (walks, hikes, tours) followed by delicious farm to table meals organized by former Madeira resident, Lindsay Barrett. You’ll experience the island like a local!
  • Guided breath work to awaken your spirit, meditation, and body work offered by Open Hearts Lisboa founder, Julie Boulanger.

Each participant will receive personal attention and support during the retreat. The facilitators offer guidance on how to identify and alleviate causes of tensions both physically and mentally. We’ll use tools such as yoga, active meditation, sound healing, energy/body work, creativity workshops, and connecting with mother nature.

We encourage a positive, supportive environment so you’ll not only leave feeling rejuvenated, but having developed lasting friendships and love for nature, yourself, and the world around you.

  • 5 days and 4 nights accommodation in a studio or suite with sea views, private bathroom, refrigerator and small kitchenette

Daily Schedule

3:00 PM – Check in

Please advise us of your arrival time so we can arrange transportation from the airport. Earlier/later check in times are fine, as we can store your luggage and make appropriate arrangements for you.

6:00 PM – Welcome Dinner

Fresh, farm to table meals using local ingredients (some from the Quinta’s garden!) Please advise us of any dietary restrictions (i.e. Vegan, Gluten Free, nut/dairy allergies, etc.)

8:30 PM – Opening Circle

A time to set the intention for your retreat experience.

8:00 AM – Morning Yoga

Each morning begins with a dynamic and powerful flow led by Berlin born, Lisbon based Steph Jaksch. Steph’s dynamic flow is adapted to individual’s needs. Her motivation, music selection and attention to her students make her unique teaching style stand out. The best yoga teacher in Lisbon, many say and for good reason! Her flow will prepare you for a day of exploration! 

9:30 AM – Breakfast

Fresh and healthy breakfast including fruits, juices, coffee, teas, and assorted breakfast items. Please remember to grab snacks for your afternoon activities!

10:30 AM – Depart for Excursion 

Each day will entail various trips around the island. We will inform you at breakfast where we will go and what to bring (i.e. hiking shoes, backpack, bathing suit, sunblock, etc.)

6:30 PM Dinner at the Quinta

Fresh, farm to table meals using local ingredients (some from the Quinta’s garden!) Please advise us of any dietary restrictions (i.e. Vegan, Gluten Free, nut/dairy allergies, etc.)

8:30 PM Optional Evening Activity

The evening’s can be used as free time, for bodywork sessions, or to partake in creativity workshops.

Bodywork sessions (on request) and guided meditation by Open Hearts Lisboa Founder, Julie Boulanger, is offered for participants hoping to go a bit deeper into their healing journey. Julie is a Reiki master and energy worker. Julie’s specialty is a “Flow massage” – a blend of traditional acupressure and energetic healing.

Some rooms are available for an extended stay from Saturday June 1st. 

Breakfast will be included on these days but there is no retreat programing. Please see pricing details below and let us know if you have any questions!

“Quinta dos Artistas” is a project of the Austrian Dornfeld-Bretterbauer family on Madeira.

Accommodation for travelers in an ecological, social and artistic environment.

The 1 hectare property is filled with fruit trees, an organic vegetable garden, swimming pool, yoga shala, and several small apartments or cottages for guests. 

Located above the town of Santa Cruz, you’ll enjoy ocean views and beautiful sunsets.

Getting There

The retreat center is located a 10 minute drive from Funchal (FNC) international airport, in the town of Santa Cruz. Major airlines service this airport daily.

Direct flights to/from Lisbon can range from €60 (advanced booking) to €100 depending on time of booking.

Retreat Leaders

Lindsay Barrett
Lindsay is a 200 hr YA certified Vinyasa Flow yoga teacher and vegan chef. Lindsay earned her certification in Goa, India and teaches yogis of all levels. Part of Lindsay’s health and wellness journey has led her to focus on her passion for cooking. She currently works as a Vegan Chef, catering for events and retreats, as well as continuing to teach a dynamic power yoga flow.
Lindsay lived in Madeira from 2019-2021 where she taught yoga and offered yoga retreats. When she wasn’t teaching she spent a lot of her time hiking and trail running across the island. She is thrilled to share her knowledge of the island with you!
Steph Jaksch
Steph from Berlin completed her first teacher training in 2003, at Jivamukti Yoga NYC, followed by many further training courses with other international teachers, and in 2005 she was certified as an “Advanced Teacher”.
The interplay of gentleness and dynamism unites Steph perfectly in her person and thus also in her teaching. When you get to know her in her classes, you see her completely in her element: motivating, positive and in a good mood – always with the right correction at her side.
Julie Boulanger
Reiki master and bodyworker.
Human behaviors and emotions have always intrigued Julie.
She started as an actress at the age of thirteen, this job became a playground of exploration and she developed a sharp observation skills of others.
After surviving a serious illness, Julie felt it was a necessity to go back to what is essential. She turned to meditation, breathwork, Hatha yoga, and reiki. She became a Reiki healer, bodyworker, and facilitator of Tuina (Chinese therapeutic massage healing).
